Barcelona players are ‘bewildered’ with Xavi’s tactical chaos – report

Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets spoke of the tactical chaos the team goes into every time they concede a goal after the midweek clash against Inter Milan.

Against the Nerazzurri at Camp Nou, their commotion after conceding the first goal in the 50th minute was perfectly evident.

It took Inter a mere 13 minutes to score their second and Busquets did not hold back after the game, saying that although luck hasn’t been on their side in the Champions League, the team, as a whole, is not doing well enough.

“The first goal from them affected us a lot. It seems that when we concede a goal, everything is in chaos,” said the veteran midfielder.

“In the Champions League, everything goes wrong when you are not convincing… We haven’t been lucky in the games where we’ve deserved more,” he added.

According to Sergi Sole of Mundo Deportivo, while the aforementioned words were not, in any way, targeted towards Xavi’s approach, the players are, in fact, bewildered by the tactical chaos.

It’s not to say that the players are turning against their manager altogether, but there are some decisions that haven’t sat down well with the team, such as his substitution decisions in the Inter Milan clash.

To begin with, the manager made his first substitution against Inter in the 64th minute, replacing Raphinha and Busquets with Ansu Fati and Frenkie de Jong respectively. Marcos Alonso and Sergi Roberto were called off in place of Alejandro Balde and Franck Kessie.

It was only after 2-2 that he brought on Ferran Torres for Gavi, adding more firepower to the frontline, but it was a little too late.

The manager has time and again admitted that there is little to no time to work on tactical nuances as the training sessions they get between each match are very few. 

But that should not really hinder the team’s performance, especially considering the upcoming line of fixtures, which sees Barcelona going up against Real Madrid, followed by Villarreal, Athletic Club, Bayern Munich and Valencia.
