Barcelona offered 25-year-old Premier League midfielder by superagent – report

According to Mundo Deportivo, superagent Jorge Mendes has offered Barcelona the services of Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves as the Catalans look for a replacement for club captain Sergio Busquets.

The Blaugrana will be forced into the market next summer to replace their long-serving midfielder who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Manager Xavi Hernandez was believed to be prioritising a move for Martin Zubimendi. However, the Spaniard has signed a new contract with Real Sociedad, committing his future to the club until 2027, leaving Barcelona to look for alternatives.

Neves is a name that has been on Barça’s radar quite regularly in the past. And now, it is being claimed that Mendes has offered the 25-year-old midfielder to the La Liga heavyweights.

The Portuguese superagent met with Barcelona president Joan Laporta and director Mateu Alemany earlier this week, where several topics were discussed, including the contract extension of teenage sensation Alejandro Balde.

Also discussed was the possibility of a transfer for Neves, who still has a year and a half left on his contract with Wolves.

Laporta hinted in his interview on Friday that Barcelona could make moves as early as the January transfer window to improve their squad. And Neves could be a possible target for the winter, although any move would be dependent on the club offloading players before.

The 25-year-old Portuguese international has been a consistent performer in the Premier League over the past four years. And while he would not necessarily be an exact like-for-like replacement for Busquets, Neves has the qualities and experience to succeed in the role.

What now remains to be seen is Barça act on Mendes’ offer and try to swoop in for Neves in the January window or wait until the summer to make a move for the midfielder.
