Barcelona president confirms Jules Kounde’s availability for Real Madrid clash

Barcelona started the 2022/23 season in incredible fashion, scoring goals for fun, keeping clean sheets, and playing champagne football. However, that did not last long, though.

The international break hit Barça like a wrecking ball as they lost Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, Memphis Depay to injuries. The form of the team dipped, too, as they lost momentum.

Kounde and Araujo being sidelined was especially concerning for the Catalans, and their absence was evident against Inter Milan, both home and away.

Barcelona now travel to the Spanish capital to lock horns against Real Madrid after a morale-destroying 3-3 draw against Inter on Wednesday. They are, however, boosted by the return of Kounde.

The same has been confirmed by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who said, “Kounde will travel to Madrid with the squad.”

Kounde was signed from Sevilla for nearly €50 million, and is already a cornerstone of Xavi’s defence.

The Frenchman has slotted in as both, a centre-back and a right-back, assisting three goals in the process. Not to forget three clean sheets as well.

His inclusion in the squad is a massive boost for the Blaugranes after Gerard Pique’s abysmal showing in the Champions League. The veteran Spaniard was uncharacteristically poor through the game, and was, in some way or another, responsible for all three goals conceded.
