Cupra interested in becoming the new sleeve sponsor for Barcelona

Despite the slew of business deals we witnessed in the summer, Barcelona are still without a sponsor for their shirt sleeves.

The club were in talks with a Ukrainian cryptocurrency company Whitebit over a deal worth €20 million. However, even after an extended round of talks, the sponsorship deal did not materialise as Barça were unsure of the future of cryptocurrency, which still has no conclusive legal framework in Spain.

A lot of other parties have displayed some degree of interest in becoming Barcelona’s shirt sleeve sponsor since. But according to Mundo Deportivo, one company which is showing the strongest interest is Cupra.

Cupra is an automotive brand and a subsidiary of the Spanish company SEAT. It manufactures the most premium, sporty and luxurious cars and is already the official automotive and mobility partner of FC Barcelona.

But the company seeks to extend the partnership by becoming the sleeve sponsor. They are bidding hard to win the race, knowing there are other competitors around.

The Cupra logo had already featured in Barça’s sleeves in some of the friendlies over the past couple of years, including the 2020 game against Elche, where Lionel Messi was seen captaining the team.

The automotive brand now seeks to become a permanent sleeve sponsor for Barcelona in the coming years by negotiating a deal with the Catalans.

Although nothing conclusive has been reached just yet, the two parties appear to have a good relationship and it would not come as a surprise to see them reach an agreement in the near future.
