Five key stats from Real Madrid 3-1 Barcelona

Barcelona’s poor run of form continued as they slumped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu this past weekend.

The loss sees Barça move down to the second spot in the league table, with the club now registering two back-to-back losses in all competitions.

Referring decisions have been a major aspect of recent Barcelona matches and this Clasico was no exception, with club president Joan Laporta reportedly going down to the ref’s chamber to ask for explanations for some of his decisions, soon after the game.

As a matter of fact, Barcelona have not been awarded a penalty by VAR in any of their last 20 matches in La Liga and their last 10 matches in the UEFA Champions League

Heading into this game, Barcelona were also the only side not to trail in Europe’s top five leagues. But the Catalans trailed in the league for the first time this season when Karim Benzema put the ball into the back of the net in the first half.

In fact, it was the only time since the 2016/2017 campaign that Barcelona conceded in both the first half and the second half of a Clasico played in Madrid.

In the history of La Liga, Barcelona have conceded a total of just one goal or less in the first eight rounds only twice. The first time it happened was during the 2014/15 campaign when the record was broken by Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu, inflicting a 3-1 loss. But Barça went on to win the league.

And finally, despite the defeat, Barcelona still hold a major advantage over their arch-rivals at Santiago Bernabeu, winning 12 matches in the last 15 seasons, compared to Real Madrid’s six.
