Report: Eric Garcia’s injury is worse than Kounde’s, Barcelona in trouble

Injuries have once again proven to be a thorn in the side for FC Barcelona this season. Just after the international break, the club were dealt with the absences of key defensive players such as Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen and Hector Bellerin, among others.

Those absences played a key role in Barcelona’s underperformance in the UEFA Champions League, leading to the Catalans eventually getting knocked out of the group stages for the second season in a row.

And in the aftermath of Barça’s recent win over Valencia, it appears the club have been dealt with fresh injury blows in the defensive department.

Indeed, both the Barcelona centre-backs in the form of Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia had picked up knocks on the night. And while Kounde has confirmed that there is nothing to worry about his injury, Garcia’s knock is thought to be much more serious.

This has been reported by Javi Miguel, who suggests that the former Manchester City centre-back may have to undergo tests tomorrow to determine the extent of the injury.

Garcia had started at centre-back alongside Kounde against Valencia. However, just before the hour mark, the defender landed awkwardly after being beaten in a challenge with Justin Kluivert.

Shortly after taking the blow, Garcia was replaced by Marcos Alonso in the 42nd minute. Barcelona had to contend with the injury of Kounde as well, with the Frenchman getting replaced later on in the second half.

While Barcelona have yet to set a timeframe on their potential returns, it appears Garcia may have to brace himself for a spell on the sidelines if his injury is proven to be serious.
