Three changes Xavi could make to the starting lineup for Real Madrid vs Barcelona

Coming off the back of a disappointing 3-3 draw against Inter Milan, Barcelona’s starting XI could undergo three changes in their upcoming clash against Real Madrid, as they aim to freshen things up to maintain top spot in La Liga.

de Jong for Busquets

Against the Nerazzurri, it’s safe to say that Sergio Busquets was far from his best. As the World Cup winner was brought off for Frenkie de Jong in the 63rd minute, the latter shone.

Carrying the ball from deeper areas whilst always looking forward, the Dutchman injected a sense of energy and directness into Barcelona that was simply non-existent before he was substituted onto the pitch.

As the Catalan side face an in-form Real Madrid, it would only make sense for Xavi to entrust de Jong in a deeper midfield role once again after his brilliant cameo.

Balde for Alonso

This is not to suggest that Marcos Alonso will likely not start in El Clasico, but it seems as if he may not operate in his usual left-back role on Sunday.

Alejandro Balde could be set for a start in the role instead, where he has emerged as somewhat of a revelation.

With the former Chelsea defender’s start to life at the Spotify Camp Nou, not anything to write home about so far, the in-form Balde’s creativity, pace and ability to provide natural width may tempt Xavi into starting him in El Clasico.

Kounde for Pique

There is no disputing that Gerard Pique had a game to forget against Inter Milan, as he was especially culpable for Nicolo Barella’s equaliser. With the club legend seemingly not at the summit of Xavi’s plans, a fit Jules Kounde could replace him in the side.

However, it is likely that the Frenchman operates at right-back, with Marcos Alonso deputising at centre-back, considering Hector Bellerin’s absence as well.
