Xavi’s terrible record compared to other Barcelona coaches after 50 games

Despite being decried as the leader of Barcelona’s revolution earlier this year, Xavi Hernandez has endured a disastrous fall from grace and is facing immense pressure, especially following a defeat to Real Madrid.

In addition to the loss in El Clasico, Barcelona were also not able to beat Inter Milan in midweek, which almost guarantees their exit from the UEFA Champions League.

The game against Real Madrid was notably Barcelona’s 50th match under the tutelage of Xavi. But the occasion ended on a grim note as the Catalans slumped to a 3-1 defeat.

As a matter of fact, Xavi has now recorded the least impressive tally by any Barcelona coach after 50 matches. The Spanish tactician and former midfielder has only masterminded 28 victories for Barça, suffering 11 defeats while 11 have ended in draws.

It is lower than any other manager in recent history, with even Xavi’s processor, Ronald Koeman, racking up 33 wins in his first 50 matches.

The only manager who could not surpass the 30-win mark was Frank Rijkaard, who also registered only 28 victories. However, the Dutchman’s team suffered one fewer defeat (10).

On the flip side of the table, Luis Enrique has the best record of any Barcelona manager in recent history. Under the Spanish tactician, the Blaugrana had won 42 of their first 50 matches, suffering only five defeats in the process.

Even Pep Guardiola was not able to rack up such an impressive record, with the Catalan only masterminding 37 victories in his first 50 matches, even though he later turned out to be extremely successful.

Nevertheless, it is worth noting that Xavi is the only manager over the past 15 years not to start his reign with Lionel Messi in the squad. The former midfielder was appointed at the end of 2021, a few months after Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain in a shocking move.

As hinted by the manager himself after the Real Madrid defeat, Barcelona are going through a transition and it is going to take a while before the Catalans can restore its glory.
