Barcelona ‘keeping tabs’ on Leicester City ace, Xavi likes the player

There is no doubt that Barcelona are in the market for a midfielder as they look to cope with the departure of not only Gerard Pique but another veteran star in the form of Sergio Busquets.

The influential Spaniard is widely expected to leave the club after his contract ends in 2023. It has put Barcelona on red alert, with the club reportedly scouring the market for a new number six.

The likes of Ruben Neves, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are a few of the names to be thrown into the hat so far. However, according to Josep Soldado Gomez, another player Barcelona are targeting right now is Youri Tielemans.

The Spanish journalist suggests Xavi is a huge admirer of the Belgian international, who has enjoyed immense success at Leicester City and is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, despite LCFC’s dodgy form this season.

Formerly of AS Monaco, Tielemans is a central midfielder who has featured in 172 competitive matches for Leicester. During his time at the club, the Belgian has established himself as a reliable midfield enforcer, who is equally adept at the technical side of the game.

Tielemans’ ability to lead the game, coupled with his long-range shooting prowess and technical qualities have made him an ideal target for FC Barcelona.

Although the Catalans have not exactly identified Tielemans as a Busquets replacement, the Belgian’s potential arrival at Camp Nou could go a long way in helping Barça add more depth to the midfield unit but also able to find a potential partner for Pedri in the interior midfield position.

In many way, Tielemans could be the ideal replacement for Frenkie de Jong, provided the Dutchman leaves the club at the end of the season or even in the January transfer window.
