Barcelona veteran has surprised the coaching staff with his physical parameters

Jordi Alba’s situation at Barcelona isn’t ideal, to say the very least. At an age where he should be playing as a leader, the 33-year-old is settling with a substitute role more often than not largely because of Alejandro Balde’s emergence.

Things are not really that plain and simple for Alba at Barcelona as SPORT reports his relationship with the club leaders is not great, although he still intends to continue at Spotify Camp Nou.

It is highly anticipated that the veteran will be shipped off in the summer but the plan could well and truly change if he continues to surprise the coaching staff through his current physical parameters, which are said to be even better than they were in over five years.

Alba has never lacked character and he does not intend to give up at this moment too mostly because he wants to fulfil his ongoing contract, which runs until 2024.

The 33-year-old has been starting quite regularly for Barcelona in recent times but it is only because the team is missing several key defenders through injury. This has forced Xavi to use Balde as a right-back, paving the way for Alba to feature more prominently.

As it turns out, while the situation is tough for the team as a whole, Alba is getting minutes at a time when he is physically stronger than he ever was.

This was revealed by the GPS parameters which considered top speed, endurance and body fat to come up with a conclusion that everything is in the right place for the defender at the moment.

Alba has been very professional about his current deal with Barcelona. In fact, several media outlets have claimed that he has never brought offers from another club nor he has requested any kind of changes to his deal.

It must be remembered that he also lowered his salary during the difficult financial time and he was willing to do it again this past summer if the club had asked for it.
