National team manager in Spain to assess Barcelona star’s injury ahead of World Cup

As Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo continues to recover from the injury he suffered in a friendly during the last international break, Diario SPORT has reported that Uruguay head coach Diego Alonso has travelled to Spain to assess the condition of his defender.

Despite the severity of the defender’s injury, it’s more than evident that Uruguay are not ruling out Araujo’s participation in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar. This was made evident after he was named in the pre-list of 55 players.

And now, as the Uruguayan coach, Alonso, is tasked to prepare the final list of the 26 players, he has decided to travel to Spain to see the physical condition of Araujo himself. 

It must be noted that any decision regarding his participation will only be taken once both Araujo and Alonso set up a meeting to understand when exactly will the player be back from his rehabilitation.

As far as the player is concerned, he is doing everything in his power not to miss the world event and for that, he has the full support of his manager, who is willing to wait right till the end to make a final decision.

“He is in the recovery process, he is doing very well and the information we have is good. We are going to wait until the end,” the head coach was quoted as saying.

Back in late September, Barcelona confirmed that Araujo was successfully operated for an avulsion in the adductor longus tendon of his right thigh in Finland after picking up an injury in an international friendly against Iran.

A month later, he posted an optimistic message, indicating that the road to recovery has been extremely positive. 

“After intense weeks, I want to share with you that, thanks to God, everything went well with the operation. I have already started recovery and I am focused on returning in the best possible way,” he wrote.

And now the World Cup is just around the corner, he is racing against time to return to fitness.
