Inter Miami pushing to sign Barcelona captain in the summer of 2023 – Romano

Over the past few days, there has been a lot of talk about the future of Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets. The veteran midfielder is in the final year of his contract with the Catalan giants and, as things stand, he has no intentions of signing a new deal.

So, Busquets looks all set to bid goodbye to his boyhood club in less than a year. And, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 34-year-old could end up in the MLS, as he is seeking a new challenge in his career.

The Italian journalist reports that clubs from the USA have been trying to sign Busquets since last year, but the midfielder always wanted to fulfil his contract with the Blaugrana. However, he will look to move when his deal runs out at the end of the season.

A move to the MLS is on the horizon for the veteran Spaniard, with Romano reporting that David Beckham’s Inter Miami FC, in particular, pushing hard to sign Busquets next summer.

The MLS outfit has poached experienced stars from European football like Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi in the past and have now set their sights on the Barcelona skipper for the upcoming summer window.

With the 34-year-old also keen on a transfer to the USA, a move could very well materialise. As for Barcelona, they are already working on a replacement for Busquets.

Real Sociedad’s 23-year-old star Martin Zubimendi has been identified as the ideal long-term heir for the La Masia graduate, with the club already establishing contact with his agent to get information ahead of a possible move next year.

Busquets has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for Barcelona for nearly 15 years. And his departure will leave a huge void in the team. What now remains to be seen is if he signs for Inter Miami FC or a different MLS outfit come the summer of 2023.
