Official: Robert Lewandowski nominated for La Liga Player of the Month for September

La Liga is set for a short hiatus as we brace ourselves for the first international break of the season and the return of the UEFA Nations League.

But after a month into the new season, La Liga, in association with EA SPORTS, has released its nominations for the Player of the Month award, featuring Barcelona superstar Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish international features in a list of players involving other top performers of the season so far, including Dani Parejo, Samu Castillejo, Luis Felipe and Real Madrid star Federico Valverde, among others.

Lewandowski’s nomination comes after a series of top performances in La Liga over the past month. After joining from Bayern Munich in the summer, the forward has indeed enjoyed a brilliant start to his life in Spain, scoring eight goals in just six matches.

Lewandowski has been able to wrong his critics by showcasing his lethal goalscoring prowess in the final third. He has also impressed the onlookers with his work ethic, leadership and experience, thus becoming an ideal attacking leader for Barça in these early parts of the season.

It even makes him one of the favourites to win the prestigious POTM award in La Liga, which should be enough to silence the critics that suggested the Pole might not be able to replicate his Bundesliga form in the Spanish top flight.

However, these are still early days of the season and it will be imperative for Barcelona that Lewandowski continues his scoring run, not only in La Liga but also in the UEFA Champions League, where the forward was criticised for missing a couple of golden scoring chances against his former club Bayern Munich.
