Barcelona defender very close to receiving medical clearance – report

Barcelona have suffered due to injuries to several defensive personnel in the past few weeks. However, slowly but surely, things are starting to improve on the injury front for the Blaugrana.

This past weekend saw Jules Kounde return to on-field action against Real Madrid, while Hector Bellerin made his comeback from injury last night versus Villarreal.

Now, according to SPORT, Andreas Christensen could be the next player in line to return from the sidelines, with the report claiming that the Dane is very close to receiving his medical clearance.

The 26-year-old joined Barcelona this past summer, arriving on a free transfer from Chelsea. While he featured prominently during the pre-season, he was used less frequently by Xavi once the campaign started.

But whenever he stepped onto the pitch, Christensen looked solid and reliable for the most part. Having made six appearances, the centre-back picked up an ankle injury in the UEFA Champions League away match against Inter Milan.

The former Chelsea ace has since missed four matches across all competitions. But, as per SPORT, he is now close to completing his recovery and receiving the medical green light fro the club’s staff.

Whether that will come in time for Barça’s La Liga clash against Athletic Club this weekend or the Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich next week remains to be seen.

But Christensen’s impending return will be a boost for Xavi and Barcelona, who will be looking to build on their recent win over Villarreal and reclaim the top spot in La Liga before the World Cup begins next month.
