Barcelona send scouts to monitor Manchester United defender

Barcelona’s decision to sign Hector Bellerin on deadline day is yet to pay dividends. Although the former Arsenal man has vast experience in European football and offers excellent technical quality, he has struggled to make an impact at Spotify Camp Nou so far.

It was coupled with an unfortunate injury late last month that has forced him on the sidelines. It has effectively left Xavi Hernandez with limited options in the right-back department, especially with Ronald Araujo also out due to surgery.

The lack of depth in the right-back unit appears to have compelled Barcelona to look into the market once again.

According to Fabrizio Romano, one of the players courted heavily by Barça is Diogo Dalot. The Catalans have sent scouts to England to closely monitor the performances of the Manchester United fullback, who has emerged as one of the bright sparks for the Red Devils this season.

The Portuguese international has indeed become a lynchpin on the right flank, offering excellent consistency and an attacking work ethic. He has already bagged two assists in ten competitive matches.

Dalot’s performances have not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona now studying the possibility of signing the exciting right-back in the near future.

Luring the former FC Porto starlet away from Manchester United, however, will not be a walk in the park. Although the player’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, the Red Devils have the option to extend it by another year.

Moreover, Barcelona’s potential exit from the UEFA Champions League group stages could be consequential as Dalot has been courted by a host of other top European clubs as well.

Therefore, the future of Dalot could rely heavily on how Barcelona perform during the remainder of the campaign, as they look to rope in the Portuguese international in 2023.
