Bayern Munich star taunts Barcelona: “UCL exit would be severe blow after summer efforts”

Bayern Munich are set to visit Camp Nou on Wednesday as they look to seal their place at the top of Group C.

However, it will be a bigger game for FC Barcelona, who are looking to keep their qualifying hopes intact. It is also a matter of prestige for the Catalans, as they are coming on the back of five successive defeats against the Bavarian outfit.

Heading into this game, one of Bayern’s main defenders Lucas Hernandez spoke to COPE about how his team plans to come up against Barcelona, having already secured qualification for the next round.

“On Wednesday we’ll give it our all, it doesn’t matter if we qualify or not. This is the German mentality,” Hernandez said.

Highly regarded as one of the best defenders at Bayern Munich, Hernandez is suffering from a knock that is likely to keep him out of the contest this midweek. Although the defender has made some recovery, he is unlikely to return until the game against Werder Bremen.

Although he will not be featuring on Wednesday, Hernandez backed Inter Milan to qualify for the next round, though he did voice his surprise at Barcelona’s underwhelming performances in Europe, especially after an eventful summer transfer window.

“Inter have everything to qualify for the round of 16, the elimination would be a severe blow to Barcelona after the effort they made in the summer,” he added.

Inter Milan are currently sitting second in the league table, with seven points on the board. This means a win against Viktoria Plzen on Wednesday could be enough for the Italians to seal qualification, as they have a superior head-to-head record against Barcelona.

With Inter playing Plzen earlier on Wednesday, Barça will learn their fate before their match against Bayern kicks off.
