Eric Garcia, Sergio Busquets react after Barcelona 3-3 Inter Milan: “We have made mistakes”

Barcelona’s chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages hang by the slimmest of threads after they were held to a 3-3 draw by Inter Milan at Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday night.

Ousmane Dembele gave the hosts the lead in the first half, but Nicolo Barella equalised for the Italian outfit, who then went ahead through Lautaro Martinez. But, Robert Lewandowski pulled it back for his team and made it 2-2.

Late in the contest, Inter took the lead again courtesy of a Robin Gosens strike. However, Lewandowski scored once again to reinstate parity and ensure that Barça got at least a point from the match.

The result, coupled with Bayern Munich’s win over Viktoria Plzen meant that Barça are staring at playing in the UEFA Europa League once again. They are three points behind Inter Milan and will need to win both their games and hope the Nerazzurri lose both of theirs to stand a chance.

Speaking after the game, defender Eric Garcia lamented over the result, saying: “We have made mistakes that cannot be made.”

However, he insisted that as long as there was a chance, the team will keep fighting. “As long as there is a little hope, we have to continue,” he added.

Captain Sergio Busquets was critical of the performance of the team as well, as he said: “The first goal from them affected us a lot. It seems that when we concede a goal, everything is in chaos.”

“In the Champions League, everything goes wrong when you are not convincing… We haven’t been lucky in the games where we’ve deserved more,” he added.

The veteran midfielder admitted that even though the group was a tough one, Barcelona should have done better, saying: “It’s a disappointment and even more so after all the work that had been put in… This group was difficult but we had to aspire for much more.”

“We had to aim for more after all the signings that have been made,” he added.

Looking forward to the next game against Real Madrid at the weekend, Busquets said: “It is clear to me that this result will affect us for El Clásico.”
