Barcelona winger taking measures to improve his speed and power – report
There are many players in the Barcelona camp who are taking part in additional training measures in an attempt to further increase their skillsets under Xavi Hernandez.
One of them is Raphinha, who is looking to improve his speed on the flanks and increase his muscle power in order to make himself more effective in the final third, reports Diario SPORT.
The report claims that the Brazilian has joined hands with Global Performance, which is an agency that helps athletes improve their muscle power. The likes of Adama Traore, Eric Bailly and his Barcelona teammate Franck Kessie are contracted by the agency.
One of Raphinha’s goals is to strengthen his muscles at the level of hamstrings, quadriceps and calves. It appears the attacker wants to become more powerful on the ball, which, in turn, could make it difficult for the defenders to keep tabs on him.
Raphinha also wants to improve his speed on the wings. He wants to become a scourge for the defenders on the counter, which may also help Barcelona to implement a more direct style of football if required.
With the pacy Raphinha and Dembele providing adequate support from the flanks, Barcelona could indeed thrive in the attacking unit, especially with Robert Lewandowski spearheading the line.
With these goals in mind, Raphinha is sparing no time in regard to his training and is doing double the effort to make himself more useful for Xavi Hernandez.
The Brazilian, after all, has had a topsy-turvy start to his Barcelona career, scoring just one goal in all competitions. But he can more than make up for his lack of productivity by becoming a creator-in-chief in the final third, especially if he can improve his speed and power on the flanks.
