Official: Barcelona squad list to face Almeria
After a six-goal thriller against Viktoria Plzen during midweek, Barcelona will look to test their run of form against Algeria in the league this weekend. This is a significant game for the Blaugranes in multiple ways.
Firstly and most importantly, it is Gerard Pique’s last game as an FC Barcelona player. After defending the garnet and blue for all his life, the Spaniard is set to retire following this game.
The veteran had always promised that he would be the first to make way for ‘new blood’ and after becoming the fifth choice centre-back this season, has stuck true to his word. The Camp Nou will be looking to give Geri a memorable goodbye tomorrow.
Andreas Christensen is also back from his injury after missing the last three weeks due to an injury he picked up against Inter Milan at the San Siro. The Dane will likely directly slot in as a centre-back tomorrow.
Eric Garcia, too, has been given the medical green light. The La Maria graduate picked up a knock vs Valencia in the first-half, but the injury only kept him out for the Viktoria Plzen game.
The same cannot be said for Jules Kounde, unfortunately, who also had to be substituted off the pitch last weekend. Still nursing his injury, the Frenchman does not make the cut for the squad list for the Almeria clash.
Memphis Depay is still sidelined and will likely not return before the World Cup.
