Barcelona are preparing formal complaint to UEFA over refereeing during Inter Milan game

Following the 1-0 loss to Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League at the Giuseppe Meazza, Barcelona are planning to file a formal complaint to the governing body over the poor refereeing during the game.

This claim comes from Javi Miguel of AS, who states that the Blaugrana are feeling defenceless after being victims of more officiating horrors in the Champions League.

Barça had to see Pedri’s second-half goal chalked off by the referee for a handball by Ansu Fati, although the new laws state that the goal was legal and should have stood.

Minutes later, the Catalans were denied a clear-cut penalty for a handball by Denzel Dumfries, leaving everyone flummoxed.

Apart from that, there were more contentious decisions, like Hakan Calhanoglu not seeing a red card for a dangerous tackle on Sergio Busquets and another potential penalty call after Robert Lewandowski was shoved to the ground inside the box by an Inter defender.

Manager Xavi Hernandez lashed out at the officiating after the game and demanded an explanation from the referees, while the Barcelona players also expressed their shock and dismay at how things had panned out.

Now, the Blaugrana are prepared to take formal action against the officiating and readying a complaint to UEFA over the refereeing decisions, with president Joan Laporta completely approving of the move.

The club’s legal services plan to submit pictures of the incidents as evidence against the ‘flagrant act of injustice’.

The VAR on the night, Pol van Boekel, in particular, will be singled out in Barça’s complaint as per the report. He was the Video Assistant Referee for the Catalans’ last UCL clash against Bayern Munich when he denied them another clear-cut penalty for a foul on Ousmane Dembele.

And Barcelona believe that these are too many coincidences to just ignore and will lodge an official complaint to UEFA over the matter as it has left them in danger of being eliminated from the Champions League.
