PSG target uninterested in signing for Barcelona in 2023 – report

Barcelona have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, who will be a free agent at the end of the ongoing season.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t SPORT), Skriniar is not considering a switch to Barcelona as an option at this point. Instead, the 27-year-old is weighing up the possibility of signing for Paris Saint-Germain or renewing his contract with Inter.

The Slovakian international is widely regarded as one of the best and most consistent defenders in Serie A. He has been integral to the rise of the Nerazzurri in recent years and played a crucial role in their Scudetto triumph in 2020/21.

However, Skriniar is in the final year of his contract with the Italian giants, sparking a lot of rumours about his future.

PSG made several attempts to sign the centre-back during the summer window but were unsuccessful. However, they still remain very much in the picture to swoop him away as a free agent when his contract expires.

At the same time, Barcelona too have shown an interest in securing Skriniar’s services on a Bosman deal next year when his Inter Milan deal runs out. With Gerard Pique’s future uncertain, there could be room for another centre-back to arrive at Spotify Camp Nou.

Given Skriniar’s age, proven pedigree and potential free agency, it does not come as a surprise that Barça are keeping tabs on his situation.

However, as per the report, Skriniar is not considering the possibility of a transfer to Barcelona next summer. As things stand, the defender is favourably looking at the chance of joining PSG, which appeals to him, while an extension with Inter Milan is not ruled out either.

The Nerazzurri are readying a contract offer to keep him at the Giuseppe Meazza beyond June 2023. Only time will tell if he signs the new deal or not. But, a move to Barcelona seems to be out of the question as things stand.
