Barcelona target wants €13.6 million per year contract to renew with Chelsea – report

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho continues to be linked with a move to Barcelona as his contract stands to expire at the end of the ongoing season.

The Blaugrana’s need for a new pivot midfielder is no secret as Sergio Busquets will be leaving when his contract runs down next year. And given the club’s tricky financial situation, Jorginho is reportedly seen as a cost-effective solution as he would come as a free agent.

Chelsea, though, are still trying to convince the Italian international to sign a new contract and continue at Stamford Bridge beyond the current season.

But, according to SPORT, the club and the player are quite far away when it comes to negotiations of new terms for the 30-year-old.

Jorginho, who is believed to have already snubbed an offer from the Blues, is seeking wages of around €13.6 million per year net (£12 million per year), which would be more than double what he is earning currently (€6.4 million per year).

Chelsea, for their part, are unwilling to match those demands but are willing to go up to €7-8 million-a-year, which falls well below the player’s demands.

Jorginho, though, has the bargaining power at the moment as he is aware that there are suitors for him.

Barcelona continue to be heavily linked with the report even indicating that there has been negotiations held with director Mateu Alemany. AC Milan have also entered the race for the Italian international.

Barça, though, aware of the disharmony between Chelsea and Jorginho, could consider accelerating negotiations with his camp during the World Cup break so that they can reach a pre-contract agreement in January.

But with Joan Laporta & co. looking to develop a more stringent wage structure at Barcelona, whether they would be willing to meet Jorginho’s lofty demands will be interesting to see.
